Height: ~300 feet
Description: These dunes are in the middle of nowhere on the southern approach to Death Valley. They are open to ATVs. We visited at twilight and almost failed to find our truck in the dark; don't do that.
Directions: Turn south off Highway 95 onto an unmarked dirt road about 10 miles south of Beatty (4.8 miles north of the Valley View Road turnoff). Proceed 2.5 miles until the turnoff to the dune area. The approach hike is easy and about a mile long.
Booming: These dunes boomed very loudly when we visited in July. They also boomed all the way to the base, in contrast to other dunes we visited, which only boomed near the crest.
